諺（ことわざ）や、格言（かくげん）、慣用句（かんようく）などの日本（にほん）での言い回しと、英語（えいご）での表現の一覧です。
日本語（にほんご）と英語（えいご）を対比させていますが、文化や生活習慣の違いから、それぞれが全く同じ言葉や表現であるとは限りません。意味合いが近い言葉の例としてそのいくつかを掲載しています。
例えば、風流より実利、外観より実質という喩えの「花より団子」を、英語の表現としてはパンと小鳥のさえずりを用いた「Bread is better than the songs of birds. （鳥のさえずりよりもパンのほうがよい）」を例としてあげました。
また、日本には「日光を見ずして結構というなかれ」という言葉がありますが、これに似たニュアンスの英語として「See Naples and then die. （ナポリを見て死ね）」をあげています。「覆水盆に返らず」の「 It is no use crying over spilt milk. （こぼした牛乳を嘆いても無駄）」なども同じです。

来年のことを言えば鬼が笑う／来年のことを言うと鬼が笑う	Next year is the devil's joke. Don't count your chickens before they're hatched.
